Perez Character and Judgment

Perez aids in letters of support to the editor of the Press. -- There was a letter to the editor 7/30 (the same day CRG had their editorial) from a Beth Pinter listing all the things that Perez has done to support the police. Word for Word the reasons "Stood by Chief Kirk etc..." listed are from a meeting between Perez, Chief Kirk, Deputy Chief Sherven, Deputy Chief Bob Wojs and Officer John Winter. They were called into the Mayor's office to discuss the Mayors displeasure with a letter Officer Winter had written about the relationship between the Mayor and the police department. The report states, "The Mayor was disturbed because he has not done anything to create a hostile environment or form of harassment as the letter states. He went on to list the numerous things he has done to show his support of the police department." What follows is then word for word what is in that letter to the editor, except for the last bullet about adding an officer to Building Use and her three later paragraphs. How was this letter created, and where did the information come from? We had to do an open records request to get it; it appears that someone else had a much easier time getting it. Since it wasn't from any of the police department people, that leaves Perez himself.

Perez threatens lawsuits and constantly accuses others of lying:  Whenever faced with a challenge, Perez immediately responds with "They are lying" and/or, "I will sue..." This has been his defense in so many issues...for example, he accused WHBL of lying about him when, in fact, everything they've reported is documented truth. Now he is threatening to sue Henry Capetillo for being an honest citizen. He accused CRG of being behind the allegations regarding the hiring of Yolanda Graf to the Tourism job when, in fact, CRG wasn't even fully formed or organized when this investigation began. There are many other incidents such as this and it appears to be his well-rehearsed response whenever some truth he doesn't care to admit surfaces.

Sheboygan Press, Thursday, July 20:  "Sheboygan Mayor Juan Perez said Wednesday that phone calls and Internet postings in the wake of a recall effort against him have gotten personal — and racist."
Sheboygan Press, Tuesday, July 25:  ". . . Perez has said about eight people have called his home and written letters over the past six months insulting him and his family using racial slurs." -- What is it; in the wake of the recall effort or in the past six months?

Perez has Ms. Charlene Dickey write a letter to the Press Editor in support of him after recall is announced. Ms. Dickey was ONE OF HIS APPOINTMENTS TO THE HOUSING COMMITTEE. Conflict of interest?

Perez used a Madison group to aid in his election in SHEBOYGAN.
"Midwest Environmental Advocates provided legal and community organizing advice to several local groups this year. After creating signs, hosting park events, generating massive attendance at City Council meetings, circulating a petition to change the city’s zoning ordinance to protect the park, and turning the park into an electoral issue, the community group successfully persuaded the City Council to preserve the park and find a new site for the police station. Even more exciting, one member of the group won a seat on the City Council and another became the first Latino mayor of Sheboygan."

Common Council Complaint by Perez from July 3, 2006 meeting:  Perez complained about Open Records Requests submitted by the community. This is our right as citizen's as stated in the Wisconsin Open Records Law as follows:
"In recognition of the fact that a representative government is dependent upon an informed electorate, it is declared to be the public policy of this state that all persons are entitled to the greatest possible information regarding the affairs of the government and the official acts of those officers and employees who represent them. Further, providing persons with such information is declared to be an essential function of a representative government and an integral part of the routine duties of officers and employees whose responsibility and duty is to provide such information."

Common Council Comments from July 3, 2006 meeting:  Perez states that the recycling calendar costs upset people because his picture was on it. This is not true. The upsetting factor was that a private citizen paid to have the recycling calendar sent out and Perez then had another calendar made up and sent out at unnecessary cost to the taxpayers.

Perez quote as reported in The Sheboygan Press, May 16th, 2006:

"What's happening now is the caliber of the council is moving up in terms of education. In the past, that particular element wasn't there." ~~Juan Perez
Arrogance or ignorance? You decide.

Committee Appointments - both for Alderpersons and Citizens - cronyism, just what he accused Schramm of doing. Read an article from the Press regarding committee appointments in 2005: Perez makes committee appointments .

Perez claimed, on his campaign web site, to "Respect people's voices and concerns", yet was quoted in the Press saying he wouldn't listen to anything negative...

The Beacon, May 3, 2005: "People can expect a person who is truly committed to moving the city forward," Perez said. "They can expect a mayor who will work with the council to move the city forward. They can expect a government that is open and responsive to the city's needs and pleas". The mayor does NOT look at any other viewpoint that doesn't agree with his. He's made this quite obvious with both actions and statements he's made. The alderpersons listed to the left follow suit. The following is a good example...

The Chief of Police had serious and reasonable concerns of the mayor appointing Ald. Vicki Meyer to the public protection and safety committee because of her previous drug arrest. The Press and the Mayor skewed this story in an apparent attempt to discredit our police. The arrest is public record; no one had to be "influenced". Anyone can get this information at any time. Read the Press Article: Perez: Police chief tried to influence committee choice.

ERGO Commission -- While an Alderman, Perez voted FOR the ERGO Commission. Soon after elected, the Council, at the leadership and support of Perez, kills the ERGO Commission. Read the Press Article.

Mayor should have been part of VFW Post 9156 dedication  "I am outraged that Mayor Juan Perez declined an invitation to participate in the dedication of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9156 new building, because he was opposed to the site. Not appearing was a slap in the face to every veteran. -- Sean Murray in a letter to the editor, Sheboygan Press.
