Good Morning,
Attached is the summary of negotiations that we had with the City. As you can see, the future of the Highway and Sheriffs Department was never an issue. For Alderman Berg or anyone else to suggest that it is/was, is misleading the public and disingenuous. A few alderman
continue
to look for an angle to discredit the
However, it has been pointed out that at some time in the future, the Highway Department will likely move, which will free up additional space and opportunities at that location. Who knows, maybe one day we'll see a joint municipal law enforcement center. But to say the County has to make a commitment to move the Highway and Sheriffs Department is ridiculous. Do the other sites the alderman have in mind include sufficient space for a future Sheriffs Department? I'm not aware they've even had any serious discussions with you regarding a joint shooting range and evidence storage facility...
Perhaps we need to send the City some official correspondence in regards to this matter, though we haven't been contacted to do so. If Mr. Berg requests you put something in writing, I strongly suggest you defer that to the County Board Chairman. I see the Mayor just e-mailed me as well regarding this matter.
Thanks for the call this morning Gary, Adam

Thanks for the note Jim. I suggest you ask Tom Holtan and perhaps Roger Laning to discuss with the Committee of the Whole the findings from the soil borings that the City conducted and to also summarize the findings of previous studies.
I'm growing weary of all this - If the City has a better more cost effective site, by all means, go with it. I just hope alderman will keep in mind some of the obvious joint use/shared services opportunities such as a shooting range and evidence storage facility. Is sufficient space available for these opportunities at the other sites you are considering?
I'd be happy to meet with the Committee of the Whole to clarify information and respond to questions if that would be helpful.

Hi Jim,
I met with the Mayor over lunch yesterday, and Juan did not say the parking lot was no longer available - please clarify. He mentioned that transit receives about $5,000 a year in revenue for rent, but didn't believe that was a major problem. It will cost city and county taxpayers a heck of a lot more if we have to build a parking ramp in the future.
Also, Chairman Goehring and are open to attending a Committee of the Whole meeting, to brief the Council on previous negotiations and opportunities to save tax dollars. I think some people are losing sight of what is at stake. Finally, if Alderperson Stephen is serious about the County making a commitment that the Sheriffs Department will be relocated next to the Police Department on North 23rd, then I trust he is also insuring that the other 5 locations you are considering have sufficient space for the same...
See you soon,
Adam

Adam, of the 51
spaces that are available at the 7th and Penn parking lot, 48 have
been leased out. It is my impression
that the Council would not be willing to give up that income, unless it was
replaced with some other source of revenue.
A vote on this issue may come out 8 to 8.

I have discussed
with C.O.W. Chairperson Montemayor that we need to

Committee which was never shared with the
Council. Also, I will try to put into the letter I will send to you any
additional information that the Council
may be looking for or if you think of anything you would like to share, please
bring that with you on the 11th. Jim G
