Perez's "Clean" Campaign Pledge

As a candidate for Mayor of the City of Sheboygan, I agree that the people of this city are not served by negative campaigns. In that spirit, I hereby pledge during the election campaign:

  1. To refrain from personal attacks. I will not engage in personal vilification, character defamation, whispering campaigns, negative innuendo, or scurrilous attacks on any candidate. Nor will I make accusations against any candidate with aim at creating or exploiting doubts, without justification, as to his or her morality, loyalty or patriotism. I will immediately and publicly encourage any individual or group who makes a personal attack on my opponent to cease their attack(s).
  2. To instruct our campaign staff members, consultants and volunteers to conduct themselves in the same manner as we have agreed.

As quoted in a 2005 Beacon Report titled, "Sheridan Park decision still stands", Perez stated, "I understand the political game -- I play it very well".

In contrast, let's remember what was once a sincere pledge among the majority of Americans:

...With Liberty
which is freedom, the right of power to live one's own life, without threats, fear, or some sort of retaliation.

...And Justice
the principle or qualities of dealing fairly with others.

...and to the Republic

...For Which It Stands
a state in which sovereign power is invested in representatives chosen by the people to govern. And government is the people and it's from the people to the leaders, not from the leaders to the people.
