Mayor's first 100 days eventful; August 6, 2005; ID: shb62751917
Having just passed the 100-day threshold of his tenure as Sheboygan mayor, life has been anything but dull for Juan Perez. The upcoming city budget promises to be a tangled mess, city management and employee unions are at loggerheads over new contracts, the mayor jousts regularly with aldermen, the city may break from its association with the Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce over tourism promotion, and the council continues to wrangle over where to build a new police station, and how much

Mayor wants discrimination panel; August 8, 2005; ID: shb62752791
Sheboygan Mayor Juan Perez is proposing a commission to review citizen complaints of discriminatory actions against them by city employees. The Commission on Community Relations would have the authority to hold public meetings, handle the complaints and make recommendations to the Common Council on possible employee sanctions or on creating ordinances that would ensure equality for people regardless of sex, race, age, sexual orientation or color..

Mayor's Commission on Community Relations would be welcome change; August 9, 2005; ID: shb62822212
Mayor Juan Perez has not been afraid of change during his first 100 days in office. The mayor's firm resolve to drive change for the right reasons has ruffled more than a few feathers, but Perez clearly is not worried about being the most popular mayor in the city's history. He is leading with his heart and his head, and it is hard to argue with his conviction.. Too many politicians in today's world are simply concerned about trying to keep everybody happy...

Sheboygan Mayor Juan Perez plans to call 11 companies to gauge their potential interest in buying excess property from the city should it acquire the 15-acre Van Der Vaart Holding Co. site for its new police station. Perez said Thursday the city would need about 5 acres for the police station, leaving 10 acres for sale.. Van Der Vaart officials recently met with Perez, along with Police Chief David Kirk, the two deputy chiefs and other city staffers, to discuss a possible land-swap deal with...

Mayor envisions savings in building new police station; October 12, 2005; ID: shb64844989
Even if Sheboygan slashes the cost of its new police station nearly in half to $7 million, Mayor Juan Perez said Tuesday the new building will be up to "100 times better" than the department's current outmoded, undersized facility at City Hall. "I can tell you that some people may not like a $7 million price tag on a police station," Perez said. "But whatever we get, and especially if we get a minimum of $7 million...

Mayor: Do new station in 2007; October 16, 2005; ID: shb65006577
Sheboygan Mayor Juan Perez, saying he wants to keep property taxes in check in the 2006 budget, is urging aldermen to delay construction of the city's new police station until 2007. The Common Council is to review the city's capital improvements program at its regular meeting Monday night, which includes $7 million in borrowing in 2007 for the new police station, to be built behind City Hall.. But Perez believes a majority of the council is interested in breaking...
