Perez quote: The people I want on my team are already in place. It's just a matter of reprioritizing to accomplish my goals. --The Beacon, May 3, 2005. (The common people are considered as the primary source of political power. Not elected officials.)
View Perez's Promise on Responsible Government from the "Perez for Mayor" Web site.
For starters...
- Abolishing the Wheel Tax
- Abolishing the Storm Water Tax (Read the Perez Pledge on Fiscal Responsibility)
- Building the Police Station
- Promised "Open Government" during his campaign. However, the truth is that there are secret meetings being held, which is illegal. There are private meetings being held by Perez with SCTA, "second" council meetings with his chosen alderpersons...none of which are televised. View more schedules!
- Less Committees. (I see that we have added many more - go to the City of Sheboygan Website for a complete list)
- Maintaining Spending. (Taxes went up - the City share increased)
- More Shared Services. (Less, since the Municipal Court was created, and the proposed City/County Storage Shed and Firing Range did not happen. All three are LOST opportunities to have Shared Services with the County.
- Clean Campaign Pledge. ("Blood Bath" comment to Dan Berg, releasing information of the Baumann letter - AFTER Baumann resigned)
- Developers would not be "given deals" - Perez was very critical of Schramm's deal with Blue Harbor. (Reiss Coal Building sold for $50,000, Landmark Condos was given 2 million dollars and just need to pay their property taxes as repayment, Warner Homes, Blue Harbor Conservatory and Parking lot...more details to come).
- Police and Fire Departments would be fully staffed. (Neither are)
- Raise funds for adequate lighting and making Sheridan Park more citizen-friendly with police patrols increased in the area, as well. (Still waiting)
Perez promises 'new era'; April 20, 2005; ID: shb59743415
The toughest ticket in Sheboygan on Tuesday night was at City Hall. A raucous crowd of more than 100 people jammed the Common Council chambers and spilled out into the hallway to hear Mayor Juan Perez begin what he called "a new era in municipal government for the City of Sheboygan.". "You wanted your voices to be heard, and they will be," Perez said during a five-minute address after being sworn in at his first council meeting as mayor.
